Jessica Pin fights for Women's Sexual Anatomy to be included in OB/GYN curriculum

From her change.org petition

The nerves in the clitoris are 2-3 mm in diameter and travel superficially under the clitoral hood skin.

As such, they are vulnerable to injury and put at risk in a number of procedures OB/GYNs perform: biopsies, clitoral hood reductions, and repairs after childbirth, sexual assault, and straddle injuries. Understanding this anatomy is also important in diagnosing and managing female sexual dysfunction.

Unfortunately, though the nerves in the clitoris were published in 1844 and many times since, they were omitted from OB/GYN literature until 2019. Though I’ve gotten studies published and multiple textbooks updated with this anatomy, it’s still not getting taught to most OB/GYNs.

The American College of OB/GYNs has the power to help dictate what gets taught. But they recently said, in an email, that the nerves in the clitoris “do not fit” in their recommended CREOG curriculum for OB/GYNs.

If they would include it, this would help ensure OB/GYNs are being taught this anatomy, which is critical for female sexual function.

practice their work with one hand tied behind their back courtesy of obeyance to accepted norms provided by socio-religious-customs. Those practitioners in the know get their clinical education much like kids going through a dictionary to see if "fuck" is really a word.

My experience with physicians has shown that at least 2% of them exhibit traits of growing up in a sexually repressive environment leaving them emotionally off balance in some circumstances. I expect the actual percentage is actually much higher. Even more tend to dismiss sexuality as an important function which deserves attention on a par to hypertension. Though it's none too surprising given the potential for legal issues which can spring from hysterical complaint.

Yep, I got opinions on about everything. Some more informed than others.

but in women's health - it's never left

Shocking - in this day and age. But this is just clear evidence.

The “exclusion” of this vital intelligence is a control issue. Period.
As females get more socially supported as stronger the ignorant omissions to information benefiting our well being get more outrageous.
Still.
