Poor folks, especially those living in food deserts, will still not be able to afford to eat anything but the stuff that is killing us. A lack of mass transit will keep us using our cars instead of walking to a stop and sprinting for a trolley, bus or subway that is about to close its doors.
If you want to look at why people in this country eat themselves to death, check out what government has done to us, especially regarding the commons and food that keeps us healthy.
You can't study what's wrong with the American diet by studying the Americans who eat it. You have to start a lot higher than that and realize why they make those choices.
