E-cigarette makers are targeting minors, hooking them on nicotine, say congressional Democrats

Eleven lawmakers, including Sen. Dick Durbin and Rep. Henry Waxman, urged the Food
and Drug Administration to stop e-cigarette businesses from selling and marketing their
products to kids. The lawmakers accused these companies of hawking their products to

BY DAN FRIEDMAN NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Monday, April 14, 2014, 8:20 PM

E-cigarette makers are hawking their products to kids, getting them hooked on nicotine that can lead to a deadly smoking habit, top congressional Democrats charge.

Eleven lawmakers, led by Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), urged the Food and Drug Administration to stub out the sale and marketing of e-cigarettes to minors.

“From candy flavors to rock concert sponsorships, every single company surveyed in this report has employed a marketing strategy that appears to target youth,” Durbin told reporters Monday.

6. No. There is no problem with adults feeling less stressed, happy and healthy.

Some here don't want adults to have that option, for reasons I can't even begin to understand.

I see a problem arising with common candy infused with pot. Real or imagined, and I suspect the issue in this op is more imagined than real, if there is a problem with this, there will be a problem with pot gummy worms.

8. So IYO candy is just for kids?

Is it the flavor, the sugar or the bright colors that dictate that?

And does this mean that no adult medicines can be sweet or flavored? Better inform big pharma post-haste.

I imagine as the kids who grew up with chewy vitamins become adults, they will think nothing of it.

Kids aren't likely to confuse or mistake those with/for candy...the other is inevitable.

or should it ultimately be up to people to be responsible and not leave edibles lying around where anyone could get into them? moreover, this is a discussion on nicotine delivery systems, not legal cannabis.

I wonder what flavor these eleven lawmakers will deem suitable for adult consumption? Plain?

You're not allowed to enjoy vaping, that could encourage minors to enjoy it!

4. So enact age regulation

I don't know any e-cig user (including myself) who would have any problem with imposing age restrictions. But complaining about sweet flavours is like saying adults should only have "burnt coffee", "stale beer" and "dirty ashtray" flavours. Likewise, cigarette makers would sponsor rock concerts if they could still get away with it.

Thanks to my e-cig, I've gone from fifty a day to about five (and I'm working to eliminate those five) and my sense of taste is starting to return. I alternate between a tobacco flavour, dark chocolate, cherry and cinnamon flavours. You want me to show ID when I buy my liquids? No problem. You want to take away my sweet flavours? Go to hell.

Kids are going to try to get high any way they can. Would you rather they inhale steam or concentrated tobacco smoke? Those are your alternatives.

This kind of grandstanding might play well enough for the churchgoers back home, but it's inappropriate considering the mess Republicans have got us into. You need to concentrate on real issues.

So agitate to get them banned for anyone under 18 if you want. However, don't delude yourself that it's going to work for all kids everywhere.

15. I don't really think this is true. I smoke an e-cig w/o nic. I am not even a tobacco smoker.

I'm allergic to tobacco. But I use Lavender and Green apple e-cigs for aromatherapy for migraines.

Vapor cigs have a lot of uses besides as drug delivery systems.
