I've read a number of books on sleep, and I've long known that most people don't get enough sleep. And I think one of the most destructive myths connected to sleep is the notion that you can sleep too much.

People will say something along the lines of "The other day I slept ten hours and when I got up I was groggy for four more hours. I guess I got too much sleep." Nope. If you've finally had as much sleep as your body needs you simply can't go back to sleep. But if you are awakened in the wrong point of your sleep cycle then you will be groggy for a period of time later.

Most of my life I've made a point of getting lots of sleep, and I am quite convinced that's one important reason why I am so healthy.
