Is 6 lpm oxygen with 90% a lot for a Covid patient? (Original Post) BrightKnight Nov 2020 OP
90% oxygen sat is too low for anyone. She should be on supplemental oxygen. marylandblue Nov 2020 #1

Clarification question: she's getting 6L/min of O2 by mask or cannula & her O2 saturation is 90%? RockRaven Nov 2020 #4
Yeah her saturation was 90% with 6 lpm of oxygen BrightKnight Nov 2020 #6

To answer. But 3 of my best friends are, paramedic, ER nurse, ICU nurse.
I could ask them in the morning, if you do not get answer sooner.
I know under 95% on pulse ox, oxygen is/can be administered just from listening to them/discussing.
Hopefully someone here knows!

my level dropped to 90% and my doctor said if it stayed there or dropped more, please head to the ER. Fortunately the next day it rebounded to 93/94 and I didn.t have to go on oxygen. But, for the next few weeks I was short of breath and fatigued... and to this day I still tire easily ( 5 or 6 weeks from infection ).

And as a partial answer before/without that clarification response: if a person is receiving any supplementary oxygen and their oxygen saturation is 90% (or less) then something is abnormal/bad.

She has Covid pneumonia. She was alarmed but I don’t know typical that is for Covid patients when they are admitted.

(I have cystic fibrosis) unfortunately the situation sounds fairly serious. Six liters of 02 is a lot and should get the oxygen saturation back up to 95%. 90% isn’t deadly by far but the fact that she’s taking 6L to achieve it is a bit alarming.

I’m sending good vibes to your sister and hoping she gets better soon!

It came out with notable force, but it was needed. I don't recall my saturation at that time because I was fading in and out, but when I moved up to 90% they backed it off..

4 liters is what I spent most of the time at.

I'm on 2 now.

my moms oxygen because of her COPD.
It dropped to 88 and they got panicked.
It says average oxygen is 95 to 100
mine hovers at 98/99 .
If you have an oxygen meter and get a low reading check those batteries.
