Booster eligibility: more than you might think.

With more people becoming eligible for boosters I checked out the list of health conditions that put you at higher risk for severe covid. It's a list of about 12 conditions. They include mood disorders, including depression, and not just obesity, but simply being overweight is on the list. That has to cover a bunch of people:

For the Pfizer booster and I assume for the ones about to be approved the CDC lists three groups at increased risk of severe covid (nowhere do they seem to use the phrase 'high risk'): Those over 65 and those 50-64 who have the medical conditions listed should get a booster. Those 18-49 who have the listed medical conditions may get the booster after making an individual assessment of the risks and benefits.
You kind of need a doctor and a lawyer to figure this all out.

I've had my 3rd Pfizer, but this is very important info for others!

When I made my vax appt., I didn't see questions about obesity, mood disorders, etc.

Are these conditions newly added as qualifiers for boosters?

But I knew that being more likely to get severe covid had to be defined somewhere. Lawyers go over this stuff

7. Considering that about 70% of all Americans are overweight or obese,

I'm guessing that once you add in all the other conditions, about 95% of the population will qualify.

8. That's what I thought when I saw just being overweight is on the list.

I had to read it three times.

9. I happen to have reduced my BMI from

31.6 at the obesity range, to about 23, which is in the normal range.

I currently weigh less than I did before I became pregnant with my first son, who is now 38 years old. For the first time in a very long time I would call myself slender. It feels good. I hope I can maintain this.

As someone who has been overweight/obese for a very long time, I understand the struggle. I am fortunate in that my appetite reduced a while back, and so eating less was very easy. I wish I could offer a simple solution to being overweight. Alas, all I can offer is my own personal experience.
