Related: About this forumI got drug tested today...
It was a requirement before getting Ambien prescription renewed. That never happened before. Apparently it's a new State of Florida law...which will do nothing but drive up the cost of medical care.
Don't know if my Medicare and/or secondary insurance will pay for it but someone will have to.
The doctor thought she could write it for 90 days. But the insurance company denied the request Apparently one can only get 60 days without prior authorization. Who knew? Not us. So the normal amount is 60 tablets during any 90 days...how's that going to work if one is taken each night? I've taken them off and on for a year but have started taking 1 @ night for the last couple of months as prescribed. They really help.
AND it requires a doctor's visit every time the prescription needs to be renewed (no refills). Again driving up health costs.
I'm not sure getting a good night's sleep is worth all the hassle. I sure wish OTC stuff worked.
Sorry for the rant.

(4,243 posts)I suppose it's a good idea. Do they do that with other drugs too?

(23,720 posts)and he was drug tested for it in his system. He was negative because he was giving it to my sister who has a bad back and no insurance. the Dr. would not prescribe it or him again.

(4,276 posts)Now I'm not so upset by the requirement. I thought it was to see if I was using something illegal.

(4,276 posts)Those are also only prescribed for 30 days at a time and person has to come in person to doctor for the prescription. Or according to my discussion today.

(13,485 posts)I have to get a separate dated prescription every month for my meds. That's going on 4 years now.

(3,908 posts)Why do you think this is an explanation? It is an abomination.
Added: It takes me sometimes 5 weeks to get an appointment to be seen for an illness but now we have to have appointments with each prescription and be treated like criminals.
More and more intrusion into our lives with less and less to show for it.

(4,276 posts)(and yes, I'm STILL trying to get preauthorization from doctor's office for yesterday's prescription) that whenever I get a new prescription, I should check my benefits to see if that drug is covered. So am I to do this while in the doctor's office before I leave? The answer was yes...like I can make the doctor wait for me to verify the drug will be paid for. I don't see that happening.
Today I was on hold for 35 minutes while I waited to find out if the authorization had come through. When I found out it hadn't, I had to call the doctor's office and 1 1/2 hours later I'm still waiting for their return call.
I don't see how someone who's REALLY sick can muddle through all this kind of crap...thank goodness I'm just trying to stop my insomnia. Sounds sort of lame now that I think about it.
