To Be and To Have (Etre et Avoir) - perhaps the most delightful, charming, beautiful

little movie I have ever seen. I saw it when it was first released and loved it. Introduced my husband to it last night, and he absolutely loved it to.

And if you don't like subtitles, be aware that there is not complicated dialogue here and it is very, very easy to watch.

The once-acclaimed French school system is under siege, with overcrowding making it impossible for children to receive the education they deserve. But there's one place that's trying to buck the tide. This documentary by Nicolas Philibert visits a one-room schoolhouse in rural Saint-Étienne-sur-Usson, where Georges Lopez teaches his 13 students, ranging in age between 3 and 10, the old-fashioned way ... with effort, attention and encouragement.

The children are all adorable and the teachers dedicated and caring. A lovely look at daily life in rural France. Recommended.
