Ken Burns "Country Music" mini series was truly remarkable - esp. the earlier episodes

True confession - I've never really been a fan of country music - but my wife and I were looking for our next binge, and it was time to flip our streaming service - we went through much of what we wanted to watch on HBO, so we upped for PBS Passport.

It is of course Ken Burns - Peter Coyote's gravelly voice narrating, lots of slow pans of black and white pictures, the calm background music. But we learned so much, and developed such an appreciation for the stories, background, talent and creativity.

For us, the standouts were the Carter family, Hank Williams (I had no idea that so many of his songs were so enduring, and that he did all he did in such a short amount of time), Patsy Cline, Emmylou Harris, all of the various early bluegrass players, Merle Haggard....but the long career and amazing influence of Johnny Cash was really eye opening.

I've started listening to his catalog backwards on my Alexa (most recent releases first) - his rendition of the Nine Inch Nails song "Hurt" is just crushing in emotional impact. The video is beautiful and heartbreaking - I posted it below.
