Is anyone else watching the remake of "The Stand"?

It's a miniseries on CBS. I don't get regular TV but I'm paying to stream it on CBS's demand service. I have a soft spot for the story, as I read the novel when it first came out in paperback and I was preparing to relocate to Colorado. I was so young. Plus, my youngest son likes it and we can watch it together. What do you think? IMO, it's certainly better than the first one but I'm unsure about the flash-back/flash-forward format.

The screenplay is terrible imho. The original chronological road tale is now a flashback happy mess. FreepFryer Jan 2021 #11
Non of King's novels translate well on the screen, IMO. Laffy Kat Jan 2021 #12
This one was easier than many, and better last time. Imho CBS writers screwed up an easy plot. (Nt) FreepFryer Jan 2021 #13

I also read the stand when I was a teen, but that was some odd 40 years ago and I don't actually remember what happened, so I am really enjoying watching the story unfold. I hate having to wait a week for each episode (I'm a binger if given a choice).

What was funny is that I was looking for it, and I kept finding the 1970's made for TV version. God did TV suck in the 70s (good thing I didn't watch a lot of it then, grew up in Hawaii, who wants to be indoors when you are a teenager? This is before cell phones and all that.

but NONE of the film adaptations have ever done it justice. I didn't realize, though, that it was showing on regular TV, thought it was only on the streaming service, so thank you for mentioning, I'm going to check it out!

Their "CBS All Access" subscription, anyway

The reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and elsewhere aren't encouraging to me.

I'll cancel. CBS has absolutely nothing else to offer that I can't stream on my computer for free. I figure it's the cost of a couple of movies and we haven't gone to movies in over a year.

Then I moved to Boulder and learned that the city is simply not snowed in all winter.

The rewrite-update was a spectacular failure, in my opinion. Personally, I doubt I wil be watching the current version.

I'd rather it unfold like the novel. Both Stephen King and his son, Owen, are involved with this one.

.. a lot of back and forwarding in time. It seems like a lot was skipped over, but heck, it /was/ one of the longest books I've ever read.

It appears to me that they fucked up and needed to revise the screenplay in editing. King’s story and the first film version are far, far better imho.

Of course, I guess that's true about just about all novels. The Harry Potter franchise was darn good, though.

Or most of King's books for that matter. I liked the earlier, scary stuff when I was younger.
