Anybody watching the new Netflix series "1899"?

It's seriously weird and I don't know what to make of it, but it's got a sort of Twin Peaks/Stranger Things/Dark vibe, only on a ship in 1899. Maybe a touch of Lovecraft. I'm fascinated.

added it to my list, but figured I'd wait and see what others thought. It wasn't really clear what it was about and the promo was too vague.

There are a bunch of mysterious people from different countries on a ship called Kerberos that's on it's way to the U.S. The passengers include an unhappy French couple, a young female doctor, a geisha, two Spanish brothers, one of whom is pretending to be a priest; and a family of Danes. The captain is German. There are reports of another ship called Prometheus operated by the same company that has been missing for months, and the Kerberos gets a message from the Prometheus, nothing but its location. They find it but there's nobody on it but a weird little boy who doesn't say anything. Nobody is who they seem to be, and the mood is dark and menacing. I don't know what's going on yet but I like it.

It's always rumbling creepily underneath. It's mostly electronic but there was also Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit. And there's a green scarab beetle that is owned by a kind of vampirish-looking guy and it seems to be tame.

Each person wakes up in a room with no memory how they got there..they wander around an empty town

All mood and no payoff. I need plot and payoff damnit. 😀 let me know...

and it was like, WTF did I just see? The end is quite a twist (and is probably the segue into season 2, if there is one). I really liked it, even though sometimes I wasn't entirely sure what was going on. It's haunting, especially the music and some of the visuals. Sometimes it reminded me a bit of the old video games Myst and Riven, with weird surrealist landscapes and doors that shouldn't be there. Maybe a bit of German expressionism (it's a German production, after all). One thing that was interesting was that the characters spoke so many different languages - I noted English, German, French, Danish, Norwegian, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish and Cantonese - and they were all trying to communicate with each other in their own languages. Maybe that was symbolic of something too. Anyhow, I'd recommend it if you like weird, puzzling tv shows.

My wife and I thought it was fantastic. Incredibly imaginative. Though I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea.

We also watched the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once recently. Watching these two shows back to back was mind blowing. If this is the future of syfy/fantasy, sign me up!

We're also watching The Peripheral. We love it so far but I'll reserve judgement until we finish the season.

If you've finished 1899 watch the Making Of video. What went into making 1899 is absolutely jaw dropping.

"Making 1899", which also streams on Netflix, contains major spoilers. Don't even begin to watch "Making 1899" until after you have watched the whole first season of "1899".

It's slow in places.

"1899" makes a little more sense after the last episode. I won't say more.
