I have Netflix. Do I need Amazon Prime and Hulu Plus as well?

Is it worth the extra $15/mo to add these two services to the $10/mo I currently pay for Netflix? Are there a lot of programs on either that Netflix doesn't provide? I'm probably going to get rid of DirecTV once my contract expires, and I'm looking for more content. I know Hulu Plus has a lot of current sitcom programming, but what does Amazon Prime provide that Netflix doesn't?

1. I subscribe to Netflix and to Hulu Plus, not to Amazon Prime

I don't watch much network TV, and everything I would watch is already either on Netflix or Hulu Plus. Some things that I might watch are on Amazon Instant Video, but not included in Amazon Prime; you have to pay per episode.

If you are a film buff, Hulu Plus has the entire Criterion Collection available to stream, as well as a lot of anime, Korean drama, Bollywood, Spanish-language programming, and even a Ghanaian soap opera, of all things, in addition to fairly current network programming.

In addition to Netflix and Hulu Plus, I subscribe to Acorn TV ($25 a year), which carries a rotating series of mostly British but also Canadian, Irish, and Australian programming, 18 series at a time. Some of it has already been shown on PBS (e.g. the Agatha Christie mysteries, Foyle's War, Cadfael, Prime Suspect, Doc Martin), but much of it hasn't (George Gently, Trial and Retribution, The Verdict, The Murdoch Mysteries, Single-Handed, Vera, Time Team, etc.)

I also stream the international mysteries from MHz Worldview (available on Roku or as an app). Currently, they are showing mysteries from Italy, France, Germany, Sweden, and Finland.

Really, who needs Amazon Prime with all that available? I've never found anything that was available ONLY there, although some things are available only on Amazon's pay-per-episode service.

2. wait, Amazon Prime went monthly instead of yearly?

we have both Netflix and HuluPlus - HuluPlus kinda sucks for more recent movies but is great for current TV series, carrying many shows' episodes as early as the next day. Netflix carries most TV series that have been released on DVD, and most movies not too long after DVD release.

We just use pay-per-view Amazon for any movies we can't wait to see on Netflix, and I haven't noticed any of these movies being free for AmazonPrime members yet (at the time we watched them, that is).

3. Hulu Plus

I have Hulu Plus and Netflix and I'm glad I do because when Netflix went down I still had something to watch. I haven't tried Amazon Prime since I figure the stuff I would want to watch there would cost extra.

Hulu Plus does have commercials.

5. I have only Netflix streaming

But I have close to 100 items in my queue so I've never felt the need for Hulu or Amazon Prime. If I did chose another, I would probably go with Amazon because the prime includes other perks.

6. Too many commercials and not enough worthwhile content on Hulu Plus, imo.

I dropped it and kept the Netflix.

But I miss catching the Daily Show and Colbert report on a daily basis.

I have never used Amazon Prime.

7. we dumped Netflix when we went with Amazon

it works well for us as we are in a very rural area and do a lot of Amazon shopping too. The free 2 day shipping is a real plus for us and we've recouped the annual fee several times over.

the prime videos are just gravy for us, but we get on kicks of watching shows and they usually are available on Amazon. some cost but most don't.

it's a good fit for us. YMMV

16. That hasn't been my experience.

I have found lots of old TV series on one or the other, but not both. I paid for Amazon Prime just to get free shipping on books and other merchandise. Amazon Prime streaming was a pleasant surprise.

There are several series on Amazon Prime not on Netflix or delayed on Netflix.

I can now catch up on Justified, The Closer, Under The Dome, Falling Skies, Veroncia Mars .....and discovered Orphan Black among others.

There are things on Netflix that aren't on Prime as well.

As soon as Game of Thrones is done I will cancel my cable I think.

9. I have all three

I use Amazon the least. I primarily bought it for the shipping advantage and the free book rental each month on my Kindle. Sometimes I will watch a movie on there that isn't on Netflix or Hulu. More often I use it to rent a movie I want to see.

I like having both Netflix and Hulu. If nothing else, having pretty much the full Criterion collection at my disposal through Hulu+ is worth every penny.

10. With Hulu plus you get access to the Criterion Collection

I cut the cable cord last month and subscribe to all three services.

And with OTA TV I'm set on the content front.

On edit - I don't watch Netflix that much these days so its nice to have the variety.

Is it true that you are quick to watch Netflix or Hulu in Canada or Australia? At that point subscribing to Streaming Vpn could be called as a savvy decision. It is moved down with exceptional backing and I have scarcely ever experienced any issue while joining with them.

I use all three of these services. They'll each offer different shows and movies, which works great for my family. There's four of us with different TV and film interests.

I also have it all connected to my Apple TV which also offers several other streaming channels for free.

I'm almost finished with Farscape on Netflix and Ben Browder and Claudia Black have me jonesing for their Stargate SG-1 reunion.
