Anyone watch 'Happy Valley' from Netflix/BBC?

I watched it last night, and no surprise it was really excellent. Difficult to watch a few times but well worth the time, imo. The lead actress Sarah Lancashire was outstanding. She also played one of the daughters in Last Tango in Halifax.

I'm watching Criminal Minds right now. It's a very slick criminal profiling show with Mandy Patinkin. (Sp?)

It's almost too slick, but so far I like the production. It could get tiresome after a while.

But, IMHO, they lost their way and started focusing on the criminal behavior and the violence instead of on the profiling that the team did to catch the criminal. I have heard that the excessive violence was why Patinkin left the show.

I really admire the Brits for their restraint, with a few exceptions.

I watched it a few times early on and thought it much like another version of CSI, so I didn't really get hooked on it. More recently I've caught a couple of the shows and as Stonepounder said, it has gotten really dark--which I usually don't mind too much--and violent. Seemed like the stories were more warped, a lot of violence to children etc. So I never watch it now.

I like creepy, dark, suspense but not bloody, gorey, what I consider over the top violence. I realize that those kinds of people/situations do exist but I don't need to watch them, as they stick with me way too long.

The cast, the story, the writing - everything was excellent.

I could have used some subtitles at points, but I understood more as it progressed.

really gripping stuff. It is as brilliant as most US TV shows are dreadful.

Wow, what a great series, with so many twists, and the way it kept going where an American series would have had a "happy ending."

I like the depth of characterization in British TV series and their willingness to have unglamorous actors.

By the way, I kept trying to think where I had seen the actress who played the sister, so I looked her up in the IMDB, and she was O'Brien on Downton Abbey.
