Bandwidth - it's like running out of water

So, in the winter there are very few people here. The number of people streaming is particularly low.

But

On a Friday night, when the visitors come in, I know exactly what happens.

The parents go to the bar and leave the kids on the boat.

The kids either hook up to internet games or start watching movies.

What happens? I will tell you what happens.

My ability to stream the Daily Show becomes an exercise in frustration.

Grrr!!!!

All I wanted was to watch the Daily Show, The Parking Lot Movie (before it expires), and maybe Deathtrap (before it expires).

But none of that is going to happen because of teens and pre-teens who have been abandoned by their parents to go get completely out of control at the Marlin Club.

Damn you aging Baby Boomers. Damn you!!!!!

(this is not a real rant. I am actually having a great time)

We have all the media needed to carry huge amounts of data and voice, but we are still using the old 'cable and pair' technology to convey this traffic in most of the country. South Korea of all places, have fiber optic all over the country, and are listed as number one in data and voice technology being used. The US is number 26, the last time I checked in 2011.

when traffic peaks, it becomes unusable.

I agree with you, though. While companies like Hulu and Netflix are pushing streaming, and cell companies are pushing data plans, not providing enough bandwidth is a serious problem.

Do those using cable have the same problems with slowing when a lot of people are on at the same time?
