Just home from the hospital after spiking a fever on Sunday.
Apparently I do well at doing stuff off the normal timetable. This was considered late for post surgical complications and infection, but that's what it was. Urosepsis - a UTI and blood infection courtesy of the bacteria Klebsiella. Was on IV antibiotics for 5 days. Now sent home with an 11-day course of strong oral antibiotics and an antispasmodic for my bladder/urethra area. Fever isn't totally gone, but it's consistently below 100.1, so they sent me home. Didn't realize that every hour sepsis is left untreated can increase mortality by 4%.
I told my friend that I'm now the most cultured person she knows - after 2 urine cultures, 26 blood cultures, and 2 respiratory cultures!
I did come down with a cough while there, but the dr. said my lungs sound clear and everything seems to be up in my upper chest and throat area. Said with all the sinus drainage I am having, it's most likely allergy related. When I cough, even though I support my stomach and belly, it still hurts where the drainage port had been. Dr. C said as long as I don't spike another fever, I can stay on my remaining chemo schedule (10/13 and 11/3).
After that, it's on to 25 rounds of external pelvic radiation over 5 wks. Don't know when they would start, but I'm so not looking forward to that, especially since my bowel and vaginal cuff are still healing from the resection. My dr said "Nothing going in either orifice for another 8 wks." I told him "Absolutely not a problem - When you were working down there, didn't you see that sign that says 'exit only'!".
So, that's where I am this week. Thinking of trying to do 4 hr work days starting next week, mainly because I don't want my projects given away if I can help it.
