For Anti-Abortion Moderates: Heads Up! Your Movement Has Moved The Goalposts!

Here's a talking point that pro-choice and pro-birth-control advocates should use with "moderate" anti-abortion voters. Let them know that their leaders have moved the goal-posts.

Most of us listening to anti-abortion politicians had had the belief that abortion would still be allowed in the case of rape, incest, and if the mother's life is in peril. A lot of self-described anti-abortion moderates have swallowed that scam hook, line, and sinker. Well, the Todd Akin campaign shows that anti-abortion politicians are out to outlaw abortion IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES. Not only that, they ALSO want to BAN birth-control.

This is a talking point we should hammer through again and again and again. And for those complacent anti-abortion moderates who believe that "they'll never do that," the answer is clear: OH YES THEY WOULD!

There's a nice video of Rick Santorum declaring his support for banning abortions, even in cases of rape. He, like most Republicants, believes woman should be forced to keep their rape baby. I'm quite sure 99% of Republicants feel the same way, but most aren't as honest as him. They should be. I think it would help keep them out of office.

Ok, this is a bit of fuzzy math I'd say, since obviously the numbers are not quite that precise. But you could make a pretty realistic guess that in a random sample of people, about half might be Democrats, and about half might be Republicans. Yet when polls about abortion are done, far less than 50% repond that all abortions, no matter what the circumstance, should be banned. Here's a recent poll, http://www.pollingreport.com/abortion.htm

Depdending on which question you go by, 12-15% of those polled oppose 100% of abortions. So yes, there does seem to be a population of people that are against some abortions but not all abortions. If pointing out that the current Republican platform wants to ban every single abortion, no matter how extreme the circumstances, educates some people and changes some votes, then I am all for it.

Edit: I actually just noticed the question about rape gives statistics on political party while the other questions do not. 76% of the Republican respondents supported a rape exception.

I remember back in 1973, Supreme Court ruled, that abortion is a legal thing to do. That was when I was turning about 13 or 14. And the grand state of Tennessee was second, out of the states where it was previously illegal, to allow abortion. Now the same people that allowed that to happen, have decided they are better people. What's that like? For the entity that governs you to make a mistake like that? You allowed it to happen pro-lifers, and you can't change that. What are pro-self women supposed to think? That our states make mistakes to the tune of allowing abortion and then oh gosh no that can't be right, lets readdress this issue.

Like pro-self women can go back and change the occurrence of abortion in their lives. You pro-life people make me sick, take about flim-flam, got both feet in the same shoe to me, and trying to walk. There is no reason that I will ever believe anything but the Supreme Court.

And please pro-lifers remember:

There are three slices of the pie, pro-choice, pro-life and then you have pro-self women. So when you go around the Supreme Court to get something done, remember who you are stepping on!
