Celery-Potato soup with leeks.
Pork sausages freshly made from Whole Foods. I put them in the slow cooker. I'll serve as a sandwich using brioche rolls.
Dessert: now this is cool and low cal. There's a new kind of four pack dessert which is banana slices covered with dark chocolate. A whole package (four good-sized slices) is only 100 calories!

(972 posts)My old (25 years at least) dependable crock pot slow cooker recently died (burned through cord - I was lucky!).
Looking at options for a new one Im a bit stymied. What do you have? TIA

(10,427 posts)I've made this several times, and it's delicious. Today, I'm making it a little different. I've tried in the past to make it "hot & spicy" by adding several habaneros to both the cheese grits base and the sausage/egg mixture, but the amount of heavy cream completely neutralizes the heat.
A few days ago, a neighbor gave me a few peppers from the big pot in front of their garage. Three are Ghost Peppers. I plan to use one in the grits and one in the sausage topping, and see if this will make it "hot".

(38,533 posts)I think sausage, onions, peppers and extra cheese, and a little fresh basil sprinkled on top.
For dessert there's still cake (chocolate zucchini). I think I'll put a scoop of coffee ice cream on mine.

(2,230 posts)Fish from Publix on Tuesday, enh. Clarified the butter, dredged in salt and peppered flour, got nice browning. Added melted butter with capers and squeezed fresh lemon. Forgot the parsley. Tasty, but fish not firm. Leftover mashed potatoes with garlic, dried onions, white pepper, fresh parsley and chopped chive with butter, sour cream and a little half and half. Salted with Himalyan pink. Salad with iceberg lettuce, sliced sweet red and yellow baby peppers, quartered zucchini, sliced cooking onion, ripe tomato and kalamata olives dusted with apple cider vinegar and Dell's Favorite olive oil from our trip this spring through Texas. Edy's vanilla ice cream under a nice squeeze of Ghirardelli caramel topping.

(2,230 posts)I bought blackberries at .99 per small container and froze them. Great for cobbler. Skinless, boneless chicken thighs for $1.99/lb. 4 lbs, froze them. Pulled 2 lbs. out and made a blanquette de veau as a substitute for veal. 4 meals for $4 of meat. .59/lb mashed potatoes with brussel sprouts at .89/lb. Whole chicken, spatchcocked at $1.29/lb. 4.9 lbs played on pan baked with brussel sprouts. $6.00 for chicken, 6 meals. Stuffed the chicken skin with garlic, parsleyed and basiled from garden with softened butter. I don't do restaurants much any more because they don't do as well and they use too much salt. Anyone can do this with practice. My wife still gives me an A with a few D's now and again. I'm still at a B to B+ because I know what I want. Problem is every night is different. Pull out the emergencies that work, but the materials are still the trip.

(24,253 posts)My wife does about 75% of the cooking, but when she wants chili she asks me to make it. Around Thanksgiving when the supermarkets are practically giving turkeys away, we always get one extra and cut it into quarters then freeze it. This was a breast quarter.
I boiled the quarter in water with lots of seasonings, then that stock became the liquid for the chili. I added some half and half that we had, some anaheim and some jalapeno chilis from the garden and a can of white corn and two cans of white canelli beans. Chopped cilantro, home made green salsa, white wine and a dash of liquid smoke round it out.

(68,485 posts)grocery haul and ate late. I had roasted chicken drumsticks, baked beans, and watermelon for dinner. The baked beans came from Sam's. I had them when my uncle died and they are delicious. I had iced coffee with a shot of Bailey's...after my hard work, I deserved it. And for dessert whole foods had gluten-free cream-filled cupcakes. I am going to eat just one...no really. I hope everyone has a great day. Stay safe!
PS...if I seem off, I took Advil PM last night as I threw my back out...forgetting that much of that stuff acts the opposite with me because I have ADHD...so I have been bouncing off the walls for close to 24 hours!
