Related: About this forumcherry oatmeal cookies, oh yum!
a friend gives me overly large amounts of dried tart cherries when she visits family in Michigan. a bag has been sitting in my freezer for some time with the idea of eventually finding some way to use them other than stuffing my face. well, that problem wasn't exactly solved but I did find a good use for them. normally I hate raisins in oatmeal cookies but thought this might be kind of good. oh yes and not just kind of!
I have a fabulous oatmeal cookie recipe from my old High School Spanish teacher, but those are thin and crispy almost like candy, so I decided to try another off the internet, https://www.quakeroats.com/cooking-and-recipes/quakers-best-oatmeal-cookies
that, minus the cinnamon and nutmeg plus a generous cup of cherries = damn good!

(2,673 posts)I usually add a cup of coconut, then split the dough in 2 parts. One part I add chocolate chips -my old boy's favorite. the other half I add dried cranberries or other dried fruit I have on hand.
And I double or triple the recipe. These cookies keep well and ship well too, I have sent them to a family member serving in Iraq.
