Related: About this forumA ? On smoked ham hocks for green beans and potatoes
Ok I picked up ham hocks smoked this morning after work do you think I should soak them overnight to get rid of the saltiness.
I plan on adding the meat from ham hocks and cubed ham.
If I just toss them in the ham hocks with the soup without soaking would it then be to salty.
Ill sauté the bacon and onions probably with cubed ham as well.
Also am using canned beans red skin potatoes Ill use chicken stock as well.
Thank you in advance

(106,695 posts)Or you could drain and rinse the green beans to remove some salt as well. Are you also adding some kind of "soup" stock that would also be salty?
That said, my Mom just used canned green beans, sauteed bacon or a sauteed bacon/cooked ham mix, onion, black pepper and added cooked quartered or baby red potatoes. So, as far as I know, she never rinsed the green beans and I don't remember them being too salty, despite that coming from the bacon, ham, and green beans. But, I probably would today, just because I eat so much less salt.
Sounds so good, DuncanPup.
