A ? On smoked ham hocks for green beans and potatoes

Ok I picked up ham hocks smoked this morning after work do you think I should soak them overnight to get rid of the saltiness.
I plan on adding the meat from ham hocks and cubed ham.

If I just toss them in the ham hocks with the soup without soaking would it then be to salty.
I’ll sauté the bacon and onions probably with cubed ham as well.

Also am using canned beans red skin potatoes I’ll use chicken stock as well.

Thank you in advance

You could soak them and the water just below a boil, then turn if off bucolic_frolic Feb 2023 #1
Why not boil them separately & change water a few times to reduce salt? SheltieLover Feb 2023 #2
Canned green beans and bacon both have a lot of salt so that is a reasonable concern. hlthe2b Feb 2023 #3
Thanks I'll just use green beans juice it's like 2 pounds Duncanpup Feb 2023 #5

That's how my dad used to cook hams & they were delic without all that extra salt.

Or you could drain and rinse the green beans to remove some salt as well. Are you also adding some kind of "soup" stock that would also be salty?

That said, my Mom just used canned green beans, sauteed bacon or a sauteed bacon/cooked ham mix, onion, black pepper and added cooked quartered or baby red potatoes. So, as far as I know, she never rinsed the green beans and I don't remember them being too salty, despite that coming from the bacon, ham, and green beans. But, I probably would today, just because I eat so much less salt.

Sounds so good, DuncanPup.

I didn't know but kickin' for the answers in #1 & #2. I would guess that those are two good answers.
