(106,886 posts)Solid marine layer overcast today. The rest of the chicken goes into a stock simmer, with onion, garlic, mild chilies, celery and the usual spices.

(146,218 posts)What do you get when you go there?
I can only get it every 2 - 3 months, which is very fortunate.

(24,146 posts)but it's been a bit more often of late.
it's usually a double cheeseburger and some fries, so greasy and so delicious. it was mcunidentified chicken part nuggets last night, i got the 20 piece for us to split.

(146,218 posts)And I like their ice tea and I sometimes get the fries.
They call me like sirens when I am on over on the mainland!
But my most favorite fast food in the whole world is Popeye's. I even had a dream about it the other night.

(146,218 posts)within 2 blocks of a Popeyes. I could smell it every day.
I had a little dog who would risk his life to go down there, too. There was always a few bones in the parking lot he could scavenge, lol.

(106,886 posts)There's a McD's right by the supermarket where I shop. I stop in sometimes, then wonder how odd it is to get a Big Mac when I've got two bags of groceries and I'm on the way home.
LOL. I just love them.
fizzgig
(24,146 posts)eventually i'll try one

(146,218 posts)I do the same thing - car full of groceries, but I make a surreptitious stop at McD's and eat it in the car before I get home.

I've been doing laundry all day and am not in the mood to cook a big meal.
So it all works out!
How do you do laundry on a boat? Do you have a little miniature washing machine?
For dinner tonight I had planned stuffed peppers. I have the most gorgeous yellow peppers and I wanted to stuff them with ground beef and vegetables. However, it is 92 degrees and we have a heat index of 101. My car, which knocks out the cold air quite nicely, did the job but I could tell it was way warmer than usual as I drove home from work tonight.
Thus I think I shall forego the stuffed peppers until tomorrow.
And have curried beans and pita bread. Red wine. I'll top the curried beans with cilantro.
I already fixed an appetizer of raw broccoli, carrots, and crackers with garlic cheese and sprinkled with walnuts. I had a glass of red while I listened to Cartelliari's Symphony 2 in E Major. Nice way to compensate for not being able to work in my garden.
I'm not complaining. We have had one of the best summers ever, but when the heat hits, I lie low, kind of what one does in a blizzard.

(146,218 posts)It's a hand cranked washing machine. And I have an electric spin "dryer". Then I hang everything out on the rails and pray that the wind doesn't pick up too much.
I did 4 loads today and am starting to bring it in. It smells wonderful.
Each load takes about 3 gallons of water for the wash and rinse. The dryer takes very little electricity.
I don't blame you for putting off the peppers. I am totally avoiding putting my oven on until the sun goes down.
This is the best time of year out here. The days have really warmed up, but so has the water. When I get too hot, I just dive in long enough to get cool.
Enjoy your evening. It sounds very comforting.

(175,729 posts)It's 91 here today but storms and a cold front are moving in. Average high for today is 77.

(135,060 posts)My dad does his own version...calls them Tom's crispy brown potatoes. He adds onion, peppers if they are on hand and diced tomato at the end. Not the typical, but damn good.

(146,218 posts)This has been something that I have failed at repeatedly.
I recently had some frozen ones at a friends. They were from TJ's and heated in a toaster oven, and they were really good.
greatauntoftriplets
(175,729 posts)I sauteed them in oil -- they were loose and wouldn't go in a toaster oven (if I had one). Never made them from scratch though I have friends who do and they are excellent.

(135,060 posts)But do make the shredded version sometimes for the kids. most important thing is to get all the excess water out before frying.

(135,060 posts)Bet you could freeze it though. I am going to try it next weekend with the kids and I will let you know how it turns out.

(175,729 posts)I don't even have three pounds of potatoes in the house; they tend to go bad before I can use them so buy three or four a week.

(135,060 posts)Because it is Tommy's veggie! I make him steak fries or French fries almost every night.
greatauntoftriplets
(175,729 posts)I don't have a starch every night. Sometimes I just want something lighter. Not the last few days, though, which was kinda surprising given the heat (two days at 95!). Cold front is moving in right now.

(6,057 posts)I am very adventurous with my cooking. Sometimes I win ...... sometimes I fail miserably!
Today I made a great discovery.
I had left over Pad Thai sauce from yesterday, a frozen ciabatta , and sliced smoked turkey breast....... and some Jiff creamy peanut butter.
I tossed the ciabatta in the oven, and simmered the turkey breast in a small covered pan with the Pad Thai sauce mixed with Jiff creamy peanut butter.
Wow!

(6,057 posts)... but not that great. Lacked the "kick/spiciness" of genuine Pad Thai.
I learn from my mistakes...... but I won't post them here.

(146,218 posts)When I followed the recipe they had on the box, it came out pretty well.
But still not early as good as my favorite Thai restaurant.
OTOH, I have made a killer coconut chicken soup in the past.
Sorry, don't speak German.

(106,886 posts)Good on hand kick for a dish. I get both at Trader Joe's but figure they're available in most supermarkets.

(6,057 posts)I picked up a jar of Thai Kitchen red curry paste and a jar of sambal oelek.
I had Sriracha on hand and considered trying that but didn't think of it at the time.
BTW - I later checked the Pad Thai sauce packet to check the ingredients and I noticed "MILD" is right on the front of the package and easy too see. Live and learn.
Thanks for the advice.
