I have a ton of apples, so I'm going to make applesauce. And I have a couple good size eggplants, so I'm going to make a roasted vegetable soup. And I have 3 or 4 bananas which I can use for some banana bread.

13. Applesauce

I have a tree that most years has loads of very small red apples, not regular crab apples, I think it's a "Japanese crab." They're delicious and make a lovely pink applesauce. They can't be peeled; I used to be able to cook them and then put them through a circular food mill but now my hands are not strong enough. A long time ago I had a potato ricer with a wooden "mallet" which I really liked but haven't seen one in years.

Do you peel your apples? Any suggestions for me? Thanks

we may just sit at the patio bar for a few cocktails and order from the bar menu after her ferry arrives.

And friends just brought us some baked ziti, so we could have that.

Or I could defrost the last of the meat in the freezer (steaks!) and have that and loaded baked potatoes.

I'm going to wait until she gets here to decide.

BIL came by and brought a take out dinner in trade for dog sitting. Large clam chowder and a crusty bead bowl. Heat 'n eat. I'm still getting cherry tomatoes from my rag tag veggie / herb 'garden', will have some with basil, oil and vinegar.

Because I was so busy I had no time to cook.

But the veggie burger was good! It was an Amy's. I put mozzarella, red onion, tomato, and lettuce on it.
