Don't really want to go out--it's below zero. But the place is so warm and friendly. And they have this great deal. Two meals and a bottle of wine for $42.

First, here is my pic of it. I made it a couple nights ago, and thank you 'berry much for the recipe; it was delicious:

So here's the story. The thing the Resident Gourmand can do that I can't is taste flavors in his head. I often ask him, "What goes with ___?" Does ____ go with _____? " I had the radish salad recipe attached to the 'frig with a magnet. He was standing with his back to the refrig/recipe as I asked him about different combinations of radish and other ingredients.

He said, "What are you trying to make?" and I said "a salad." He then said, "A good salad with radishes would be to combine them with apple." He then went on to say that it would be good to add a bitter green and top it with a nut. He suggested hazelnuts.

OK, so now that you have made the salad, you pretty much know he was describing the salad that was attached to the refrigerator right behind him!

I laughed. We have a good psychic thing with food going on between us.

It was fun to pull the recipe off the frig and ask him to read it. He had to go get his glasses to read it, but when he did, he saw the humor in the situation.

Now, I will tell you what really makes this recipe is the pistachio/pepper mixture on the top. The first time I made it, I didn't put enough chopped pepper in. The second time, I toasted way more nuts and chopped up more of the chile de arbol. Combined with the slight sweetness of the dressing it was a very interesting salad. I liked it a lot and would make it again in a heartbeat.

And I am glad it turned out well for you.

The other night I made a salad with fresh papaya and raw tomatillos. Same sort of sweet/tart combination that I just love. Made a lime/pepper vinaigrette and it was pretty perfect. Nuts would have been great as well.
