Related: About this forumI hate veggie burgers. Especially if I have to buy them. $$$
However, this seems intriguing and I am going to give it a go. Only thing I am doing different is replace the brown rice with Bhutan Red and try with less egg whites.

(111,135 posts)without indigestible suet and connective tissue. It's the reason I'll buy $$$ fish. Unfortunately, most of the good veggie burgers (Boca and quorn, I'm looking at you) contain gluten and that's out these days.
My problem with the burgers like the one you posted is the texture--the outer crust is thin and the interior is pure mush. The only exception is falafel made into thin burger patties and that's mostly because of the strong flavors of cumin and garlic. Adding some barely softened bulgur to the mix made for better texture but again--gluten.
So I'm eating fish and the beans are with rice.

(2,016 posts)I'm an omnivore, but I dated a vegetarian who had the most awesome recipes. My fave was a Greek-inspired lasagna. However...
She used to make homemade veggie burgers that even satisfied this omnivore. I think she used chick peas as the protein base, but I was so enamored with her, I forgot to ask her what her recipe was. And, I love recipes!
Typical guy, that I am.

(2,148 posts)And their buffalo chicken patty is excellent too.
Edited for spelling.
I like these ones too. I don't care for the ones that try to be a hamburger, the garden veggie patties are not trying to be a fake hamburger.

(10,128 posts)that was always at small restaurants that made their own. My favorite was at a pub in Ithaca, NY that was made with beans, barley and pecans (and would have been great with bacon, in my humble non-vegetarian but not eating much meat opinion), but I can't duplicate it. Gardenburgers taste like cardboard to me, possibly because people overcook them.

(10,128 posts)Thanks for the recipe - it will at least give me some proportions to start with.

(2,673 posts)They have some good dishes with "veggie meat" in them. I like their salad the best, it has bits of the "meat" in it, quite tasty. The only thing I didn't like was that they put sugar in oil and vinegar dressing. It didn't seem like it went with the salad.
