Gack! OK, lesson learned: do not put frozen food into the crock pot

and turn on the heat. That's how you crack the ceramic liner. The crock pot is fairly new - is it worth it to hunt around for a new liner or should I bite the bullet and get a new crockpot?

are from salvation army for less than ten bucks and are running great after a decade. The one I bought new has a screwed up thermostat. pffft.

(I have a collection of them because I used to cook for 100+ people daily in addition to working full time)

I broke a lid on one of my crocks and found out it would almost cost to replace than buying a new crockpot.

spent forever looking for a new one at thrift stores. Finally found one that fits pretty well, but mostly I just use a lid from my stove top stew pots. No discernible difference in performance. Makes me ticked off at myself that I didn't think of it sooner because I went so long without using the crockpot while looking for that lid!

takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin' - I inherited it from my wonderful mother-in-law, who bought it in the 1970's! Given my tiny cabin and lack of counter space, the crockpot is a lifesaver. If yours is a Corning liner, you can probably replace it fairly cheaply. I don't want to go to a "newer" model with all the electronics, etc. Kinda like the basics.

if you can find an identical replacement.

I got a like new crockpot off Etsy, it was from early 1990's, much better biuld than what I could find today.

thanks for the tip on frozen food, sorry you had to find out the hard way.

last time I went to the Goodwill. I think it was $3.99. It would fit my particular crockpot perfectly and I thought about buying it but now that the OP has tipped me off, I won't need it!

10. I just replaced a liner. It was about 1/3 the cost of the whole gizmo.

For me paying 1/3 is better than 3/3 lol

I put frozen food in our slow cooker all the time, but I don't preheat it.

However, I have done the same thing and have not had a problem. Maybe I'll plan ahead better and thaw the food to avoid this problem.

will the heating element last long enough to make a new liner purchase worthwhile?
