What's for Dinner ~ Saturday ~ March 15th

Not sure, but I have finally started watching cooking shows again and trying to get more excited about food.
After such a painful winter, where all I wanted was something simple that didn't make me feel worse, it's actually fun to look at recipes again.

What's on your menu?

Tonight will thus be spaghetti made with ground sirloin from the local butcher and a lovely spaghetti squash I picked up the other day. Had to buy it because the ones I grow ran out a couple of months ago. I'll have to dedicate more yard space to them this year. I'll be planting snow peas sometime in the next few days, for the earliest crop of the year. Lightly sauteed with carrots and a tiny bit of brown sugar, they become the 'spring is here!' side.

Looks like you will make a wonderful addition to this already wonderful crowd.

I have tried to like spaghetti squash, but there is something about it that turns me off.

How do you prepare them?

I slice them lengthwise, a normal sized one is two meals for me, this giant I just got is going to be 4, then slap the slice on a corelware plate with a half cup or so of water and pop it in the microwave for 8 or 9 minutes. Pull it out, run a fork through to scrape out the strands, discard the skin, and cover with your favourite spaghetti sauce and parmesan.

Other than a slight textural difference, I find them pretty similar to spaghetti, really.

They always seem kind of tough and stringy, but if I can find a really fresh one I will try it.

Enjoy!

She likes to eat healthy and is somewhat a vegetarian. So perhaps some seafood of some sort.

I miss watching cooking shows, but I am discovering more blogs.

DH had to go into town to rescue the car and has been instructed to return with produce.

I'm thinking of a chef's salad, but I still haven't made the beloved tuna/noodle casserole yet.

Will wait and see what he returns with.

Off to Pasadena to cook with friends. They say it'll be Indian food, so it could be anything with a curry.

I have been drafted to do prep work, so I will demand a cocktail or two as payment.

(Man, I really hope they will have some sort of chick pea recipe on the menu!)

85 degrees here so a salad supper sounds good. Hard boiled eggs, cucumber, red onion, celery, Dijon mustard, mayo, salt & black pepper. Water crackers and sharp cheddar. Nectarines & yogurt.

Like a fabulous St. Paddy's day meal.

Love the idea of the redskin potato celeriac combo.

Asian snap pea salad with sesame orange dressing. Has blanched snap peas, red bell pepper, green onion, spring mix greens.

Aglio e Olio with fresh sage. That's just pasta with garlic, olive oil, and sage.

Dover sole francese.

Dessert is poached peaches with mint.

A Palestinian or Lebanese dish (depending on who you ask!) Place a generous amount of garbanzo beans seasoned with cumin and lemon in a bowl. Top with ground beef or lamb (I used beef) with lots of garlic, onions and allspice. Finish off with a couple of heaping tablespoons of labneh (thick middle eastern yogurt -- or any plain yogurt will do.) Traditionally also topped with roasted pine nuts, but I was out
