Hi,
I came across a recipe for a Vietnamese noodle bowl with grilled beef (Bun Bo Nuong) and the sauce you put on it (Nuoc Cham) somewhat like I get at a little Vietnamese place in town. It turned out pretty good, but now I have a gigantic bottle of the fish sauce. It is an interesting product, it is so mild for the name. Anyone have any other suggestions for the stuff?
Peace

(2,101 posts)chop up some onion and tomato, then mix in some fish sauce. Sorry, I do things to taste, so I can't help there (with measures), but you'll enjoy your steaks this way.

It's not just for Vietnamese soups. Wikipedia has a lot of suggestions within their own cuisine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C6%B0%E1%BB%9Bc_ch%E1%BA%A5m .
Cruise for western recipes using it at most recipe sites online.

(8,646 posts)There's an Asian salad dressing I love that calls for it, I use it with my stir fried veggies or meats, or sometimes I drizzle it (w/soy sauce too) on noodles just after I drain them. I do have a cookbook that has fish sauce in many things, so I use that as a guide. It's usually put in a sauce, marinade or dressing as a seasoning, or in a broth like what you used it for.
I agree the portions for some of these sauces are ridiculously generous. I have a giant bottle I bought for cheap and it's still almost 3/4 full, even though I use it quite often.
