Dinner is a hamburger on a pretzel bun, leftover carrots and leftover garlic/butter potatoes.

and stay off that ankle for a while. I'm having a kale, carrot, celery, black olives, red grapes, cashews, salad; olive oil, vinegar, and a little sugar dressing.

Not sure how I'm going to "re-purpose" the roast (note the nifty, trendy word I used from all those cooking competition shows that I don't even like...).

Maybe I'll just add it to the leftover marinara and put everything over some pasta. It's been a long day for me, why cook?

-Fizz: Hope the ankle gets better soon!

Well, said!

An even _worse_ word from the (Not about Food Anymore) Channel that I detest moreso.

I have met my match, well played Pinto. Well played...

I made them last night, but when you start cooking at 11:15 p.m., guess what happens!?

Clue: zzzzzz

so they are nice to have for tonight.

Added an appetizer: cold red and yellow pepper slices with gorgonzola. Also grilled onion slices.

Red wine.

unsolicited advice:

a) put on cold packs. Cold is better than hot.

b) elevate ankle.

with ground beef, avocados, onions, and dried tomato greek yogurt dip (from oikos - it's really good!), and some melon.

Still doing the budget thing - so far just over $60 for two adults for July.

On a somewhat related note, a little over a year ago I posted about a deal I got. I bought 26 packets of unsweetened lemon koolaid for $2.60, and got a 5 lb bag of sugar free, and $2 back in store credit, making the sugar 60¢ per bag. I got two bags of sugar that way, each 60 cents, because I have fruit trees and do a lot of canning/making jam.

I found out today over in the conservative cave, they had a thread talking about what a moron I am, because the usual price for a 5lb bag of sugar is "less than $3." Can someone explain conservative math to me?

(also, I'm making slow but good use of the koolaid, which turns out just to be citric acid, which I love.)

....for $2 off a five pound bag of sugar with purchase of a box of pectin. Your deal was even better!

Cavers probably buy that cheaper stuff from genetically modified sugar beets. I only buy pure cane sugar from Hawaii.

it's my nickname at the station house, I got it because on a response to a structure fire, we encountered an Iron Gate preventing us access to the property, so, like a young macho firefighter, instead of using the proper tools to force the gate open, I reared back with my right leg attempting to kick it open, just like you see in those cop shows, the only thing that gave was my right ankle, broke it in two places.
From then on, my handle on the dept is IronGate.

I think the only thing I miss about living in Wyoming was the bounty of local game. Deer, antelope, and the best of all...elk.

<sigh>

Enjoy the stew!

Quick and simple...it's too hot here to cook for very long. I added cut up cherry tomatoes and basil leaves on mine.
