What's for Dinner, Sun., Aug. 17, 2014

So far I see some kind of dessert using fresh peaches. I saw a roasted ear of corn being cut and vegetables and herbs being added.

The RG and I are spending a leisurely Sunday together. Beautiful weather out; will probably go sit outside for our meal. Here are a couple pics of our front patio where we like to go, which is very quiet since we're on a private road and it's also enclosed with hedges.

I made this table myself by obtaining this huge piece of glass and using columns for support. That figure off in the distance is my foo dog statue.

Here's foo dog, guarding the front patio.

1. A roast chicken and a very special salad.

I am using this new cookbook and starting with the simplest recipes. The chicken came out perfectly and I am about to assemble the salad.

Your patio is really lovely. It's so great to have a nice quiet place to just sit and to eat.

Enjoy!

3. Red sauce

with fresh mushrooms, meatballs, hot Italian sausage, etc etc.

Probably rigatoni as the pasta. Again, the waiting is the hardest part - the house smells so awesome right now...garlic and tomatoes abound! Just 2 more hours...2 more hours...

5. Lovely patio and neat idea for the table!

Dinner is leftover sweet Italian sausage, cooked with bell peppers, onion and tomatoes. For dessert, I made a plum kuchen today.

6. Whatever's on hand today. But marinating curried beef burgers for a good fresh dish tomorrow.

With spicy mint mayo topping. Thinly sliced cucumber, baby lettuce. On flat bread.

There's a lot of prep, mainly slicing and dicing. But the cooking will go quickly. The ground beef gets a bit of everything curry.

We'll see...

7. Thin (brined) pork chops on the grill with Carolina Red BBQ Sauce.

Citrus Kale Salad ( I cannot get enough of this stuff), sliced homegrown tomatoes (I can see the end in sight )
Red bliss potatoes w/scallions, green beans. I made sliced peaches for dessert, but every had to run off on different missions, so I've got peaches for tomorrow a.m. to serve with yogurt/granola breakfast.

Gorgeous outside table, Cher. Esp. love Foo Dog and hope he doesn't fight with your cats!

8. Wow, your patio looks like something from a movie!

We're having a mushroom, cheese and tomato omelet, and honeydew on the side.

9. neighborhood BBQ

....complete with an old-school rock and roll band, a keg, kids and dogs, and so on. I live across the street from the old craftsman house where it is being held in the yard, so I might as well be where the band is. I'm taking a big pasta salad and a gravenstein apple pie.

Next week another neighbor is holding a riverside lawn retirement party and has invited 400 peopl That will be something else!
