What's for Dinner, Fri., Oct. 17, 2014

Denver omelette. Glass of red wine.

Later I'm going to be making some other things for the weekend; might post back when I figure out what they will be.

I am so excited because I got my kitty back from the vet and she had a shot for asthma and now all is well!!

OK, with Mexican squash, tomatoes, mushrooms and onion...butter and lemon - all in foil, on the grill. Served over rice, with all them awesome juices.

Glad to hear kitty is well, Cher! My power just came back on after 6 hrs, now I'll spend the rest of the day resetting every darn electronic clock in the house. Ugh!

I got a new watch and I accidentally set it so the day was incorrect. Almost made me late for my mortgage payment! Would have cost me an extra $125 had I not noticed on the computer!

Your grill meal sounds terrific! I'm assuming that by Mexican squash you mean grey squash. They are delicious, and we have them all the time due to the two Hispanic grocery stores in proximity to our house.

I prefer shopping there. They are cleaner, more organized, and way more efficient than the standard American "supermarket." I also like the fact that they are not intimidated by the shelf space bullying that is the case at the large supermarkets. When I go into the Hispanic grocery stores, I find all kinds of brands one would never find in the traditional American supermarket (especially true of soda and laundry), whose products are dominated by whomever will pay the most for the space. The RG tells me this is called a "slotting fee."

Another thing that is cool about Hispanic grocery stores is their system of labor. They will hire plenty of labor so the customer doesn't have to wait in a line, unlike the traditional supermarket. The customer can pay a tip at the register if they want, and, of course, I always do because the people are so efficient and polite.

and it was yummy! <burp> The juice from the tomatoes infused into the halibut. Oh so good.

I find shopping at the Hispanic grocery stores always saves me soooo much money on produce. For one, they use independent growers, unlike the mega-marts who contract certain farms. But also, the produce isn't picture-perfect, unlike the mega-marts. I really don't care how it looks, just how it tastes. An occasional blemish is fine. So, both those respects, I get my produce 3-4x cheaper than the mega-mart down the road.

Used a Mollie Katzen recipe. Served it over yellow rice. Mixed in Kalamatas, toasted pine nuts, and topped with aged Cheddar and also some parmesan.

Thanks, everyone, for your good wishes in regard to my kitty.
