Smoking flank steaks`

As a (upcoming) birthday present, I got myself a cheap (Masterbuilt) electric smoker, so start to see what's involved.

My mother, for same birthday, got me two 20oz cuts of flank steak - Can't wait to cook them.

My grill is muerto. All I have is an electric Masterbulit smoker.

How can I make the really good? Or should I just dump $200 to a grill?

Thanks

- T

If you are looking for a rare steak just slip it under your broiler for about 6 to 7 minutes a side. I like my beef simple and uncomplicated

Or you could get the grill.....

The basic method I use is to smoke them for a relatively short period like 45-60 minutes over low heat. You'll probably want to use something like hickory or mesquite. Finish them on the grill over direct heat. Naturally with flank steak you'll want to cut it across the grain before serving.
