Why I rarely post here any more

(not that anyone has probably noticed)

I was a semi-professional cook; meaning if I hadn't learned early on it wasn't as glamorous as it seemed, I might have made it a career. But I loved to cook and will happily do so for family and friends, but I'm also active in the cancer forum, with a condition that isn't getting better, and with it, I find I rarely eat - most of my intake is liquids, actually - so I rarely post anymore. I miss it very much, but it's odd - I don't have an appetite (usually) and have no desire to cook. I don't know if they're related reasons, but I don't play the piano any more either. But I've always loved to cook for people.

Not sure why I'm writing this on a Saturday morning. Everyone's out of the house except my Shih Tzu who is barking at something.

I hope to contribute more soon. I think I still have more to contribute but circumstances are holding me close.

I know your posts are missed but do not apologize for handling this hard time the best way you can. I think continuing to do the activities we have enjoyed, such as music, cooking, being out in nature, eating with friends, helps some of us some of the time, but we never know how we will get through the low times until they come.

Lately, the old hymn O Love That Will Not Let Me Go, especially the third verse, has helped me to remember the Joys of life, like cooking for others, and all the good times that lift our hearts.

O Joy that seekest me through pain
I cannot close my heart to thee
I trace the rainbow through the rain
And feel the promise is not vain
That morn shall tearless be.

as soon as I read your words I was singing it in my mind, and the harmonies are so beautiful in it.

My mother used to take solace in old hymns in difficult times. I am not a church-going person, but still there is comfort in beautifully written words and music.

I know many times I've read a post and said who wrote that? Then I scroll up (or down) and often enough, it's you.

But thanks for keeping us informed.

God bless you, it is not easy to battle the big C, I have been there. You are in our thoughts. I hope your doggie gives you comfort. My big old mutt spent many hours snuggled side me on the bed when I was too sick to get out of bed.

I think their motto is "ignorance is bliss".

I'm on my second marriage (10 years official, after 2 to start). My first wife and I bred dogs. My wife now was on the board of the humane society (I think she married me because I didn't freak out that she had 6 dogs). I don't know how many dog breeds I've been involved with, but I'm sure it's at least into the 20s. We try to do rescues when we can, but there's the occasional official breeder (like for the endangered list Tibetan Spaniels (are they still?) or Icelandic Sheepdogs), and the rare puppy store.

Of all the dogs, from the German Shepherd to Chows to the Icelandic Sheepdogs, to mixes (don't ever get a hound mix), I like the Shih Tzu's the best.

If the only dog for the rest of my life is a Shih Tzu, I'll be happy.

p.s.: and for the record, if you're advocating an alternative, I'm highly allergic to cats. Disposition aside, I just can't be around them without medication (for me).
