Cooking & Baking
Related: About this forumWhat are you cooking/baking during The Blizzard?
Assuming you are experiencing this phenomenon . . . .
I'm making a batch of pepperoni soup and a couple of loaves of French bread.
(I'll do anything to avoid cleaning even if I'm snowed in.)

(7,473 posts)This old Italian never heard of it. I put pepperoni on Pizza, in Spaghetti sauce, various sandwiches, never heard of the soup. It is tomato based? Care to share?

(46,080 posts)2-3 cans (28 oz) of plum tomatoes including juice
2 cubes beef bouillon
Some water
Sliced carrots, celery, onions
Cubed pepperoni
Ditalini pasta
1) Cook pasta, drain, put aside
2) In EVOO, saute onions, carrots, celery
3) Add tomatoes (break apart) and juice. Cook down a bit.
4) Add bouillon cubs and some water.
5) Add some salt, pepper, oregano. Cook to taste
6) Add pepperoni. Cook a little more.
7) Ladle into bowls, adding pasta (otherwise it will get mushy if you don't eat all the soup)
Feel free to augment, change, improve.

(7,473 posts)My Italian grandmother made them all the time. Loved them. Mom never made them. Out of desperation, I buy the Stouffer's. Not very good compared to home made. I just can't seem to do it. Tried years ago. Disaster. What is your magic?

(35,658 posts)I am making a sort of breakfast-type dish, using zucchini and eggs. It will be one of those items I can slice off for a quick breakfast in the week ahead.
Later, I'm making cauliflower curry with pecans. Also on the agenda is stuffed peppers. They are partially made, as I'm using a stuffing already made by the RG.
I am having a ball watching the birds at the bird feeder. Right now I have a red-headed woodpecker and some sparrows. I had a bluejay, too. These lucky birds--I set in a good supply of bird food and not only that, I bought an extra goody: a big bag of nuts, like peanuts, cashews, etc. that I mix in. It already has a lot of sunflower seed in it, but that's not every bird's "cup of tea," I've found.
The snow is gusting, but it's not too bad. Maybe I will upload some pics later.
In my kitchen, I have two very large windows to look out and watch the storm. We had one gust of wind that scared me, though. The bamboo and tall trees were swaying dramatically.

(10,291 posts)spaghetti and meatballs (of which I have already bartered some of that off for some hooch) fried cabbage, am getting ready to make some bacon wrapped chicken tenders, roasted cauliflower and a pork roast for tomorrow, provided we still have power. I have to be ready to barter for some plowing services, or more hooch.
