(14,624 posts)Of course I've never been snowed in. Been hurricaned in a few too many times though . . .

(3,040 posts)Unfortunately, I have been both snowed and hurricaned in here in NJ over the last few years. Each time, I make sure I am well stocked in liquor and beer.

(9,259 posts)The recipes in Grandma's cookbooks called for boiling a whole chicken and making your own noodles. Nah.
1 - 2 large boneless chicken breasts
2 potatoes, peeled and cubed
2 carrots, peeled and sliced (or a handfull of baby carrots)
2 ribs celery, sliced
2 cans cream of chicken soup
1 can chicken broth
1 packet Lipton Golden Onion Soup mix
2 cups water
1 stick butter
1/2 package pot pie noodles (squares or bows)
Mix soup, broth, water and soup mix in crock pot. Stir in veggies, drop in butter and chicken (can be frozen). Cook on low 8 - 10 hours. Remove chicken, shred meat, return to crock pot. Make noodles per package directions, drain, add to everything else in crock pot. Stir well and serve. This is basically a hearty chicken stew.

(32,968 posts)'Dept I do it on the stove too with my deep frying pan. Neat.

(10,291 posts)I always crave something summery when it's freezing out and snowy, so...
after a cuppa hot chocolate...or two...and maybe spike it with something fun (because you're snowed in and not going anywhere)
I always want ribs
and mac and cheese
and cole slaw...
If that's not around, a chuck roast will be heading to a dutch oven. Quickly.
Else You Are Mad
(3,040 posts)I usually cook ribs (this works best for already cut spare ribs) by rubbing the ribs in whatever spice rub I have around and a heavy amount of smoked paprika (to give the ribs a smoked taste), I then wrap it in three layers of foil and let it sit for at least 3 hours to 24 hours. I then cook them in the oven for 3 1/2 hours at 225. Then I take the ribs out and remove them from the foil then let them sit for at least half an hour. Next turn up the oven to 350 and then thoroughly coat the ribs in BBQ sauce and cook it for 15 mins to caramelize the sauce and repeat that 2 more times.

(10,291 posts)Sometimes I pressure cook mine...but a slow oven when adding the sauce at the last 35 mins, keeping an eye so it gets sticky without burning
