Baby arugula salad which was just picked about 10" ago from my garden!
Bowl of pasta fagioli, with cannellinis cooked this afternoon. The cannellinis were cooked with carrots and celery, but before serving, the RG says he will add little bits of carrot and celery cooked in pancetta. The latter three items will be added to the pasta fagioli. Chopped parsley on top.
Dessert: Well, I bought this watermelon--if I can find it we will have that with some red grapes.

(21,916 posts)I'm still alone in the mountains but it's a lovely evening so I'm going to eat outside.
To start, a fresh mixed salad complimented with tomato, red onion rings, sliced green olives and croutons with a drizzle of blue cheese dressing.
Freshly made crab cakes with mashed potatoes.
Sliced Red Delicious apples with dark chocolate and a glass of port.
Now, my question: What do you mean by "RG"? When I searched for an explanation, Urban Dictionary offered a number of suggestions but I really don't think any of them apply to you!

Dinner sounds great! Crab cakes way up there, eh?
I was thinking Real Gentleman or Righteous Goodie.
The Pecks Market in Callicoon, NY is awesome! The butcher and deli are superb and the fruits and vegetables are among the best. And the prices are extremely reasonable. Its owned by the employees and it would be difficult to find more accommodating folks.
One of their foodies makes the prepared foods and today she made the crab cakes. They were delicious!

(130,126 posts)I'm having a party in a few weeks, here in southern MD, where I'll serve 'mini-crab cakes' made by a small, local cafe. Looking forward!

TJ has been up since 8 pm last night so we ate early. We took the four legged food critic in for surgery early this morning and ate late this afternoon when we received the news that he had done OK and will most likely come home tomorrow. This is comfort food to us. We missed his "help" with cooking.
How do you lose a watermelon?

(32,828 posts)Ingredients 1 tsp butter, unsalted ½ green pepper, diced ½ onion, minced 2 green chilies (mild jalapenos or small poblanos) 2 garlic cloves, minced 1 inch fresh ginger, minced (or 1/4 tsp dry, ground ginger) 1 lb chicken breast 1 lb potatoes, diced 1 tomato, diced ½ small lemon, juiced (about 1 Tbsp juice), optional 1 Tbsp curry powder ½ tsp salt ¼ tsp turmeric 1 Tbsp unbleached all purpose flour 1 c water 1 c coconut milk
Instructions Melt butter in a large, skillet (cast iron works well). Add onions and green peppers and sauté for 5 minutes, until soft. Add the chicken and brown over medium high heat, until golden, 5-7 min. Add the potatoes, tomatoes, garlic, ginger, chilies, lemon juice (if using), turmeric, curry powder, and salt. Whisk the water into the flour until smooth. Add to the mixture the skillet. Simmer, uncovered over medium heat until the potatoes are tender and the mixture has begun to thicken. Mix in the coconut milk (and boiled eggs, if using) and simmer for an additional 15 minutes, Serve immediately with steamed white rice.
I wanted to try another curry, but with coconut milk as the base.
