I'm baking today

Cookies for a friend's daughter's wedding. I'm not the only one contributing cookies, there will be quite a few others.

The Cookie Table is a MUST for an Italian wedding around here. (and, no I'm not Italian) ... but in this area, the custom is pervasive at most all weddings. You will likely see 1000 or more cookies on the cookie table at most larger weddings around here.

I was wondering if this custom is popular anywhere else?

I baked a Wacky Cake, yesterday, and topped it with buttercream frosting. It is pretty tasty.

Just flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, vinegar, vanilla and oil. I imagine they probably skipped the vanilla, back then. It's a nice, moist 8X8 pan cake.

and the wedding featured a cookie table. That was the first we heard of such a thing. When the relative got married in SE Ohio, she wanted a cookie table. She got married in Dec. but I think she wanted chocolate and white cookies to match her wedding colors (black and white with red accents) I made elegant almond bars, which are the best cookie I've ever eaten, Oreo truffles, cranberry bars, and tea cakes.

That was less than 10 years ago. I haven't been to many weddings since that one, so I don't know if it took off around here.

but we had a DIY wedding. Instead of gifts, guest contributed to the wedding and reception. We bought the wedding cake, everything else was brought by guests and we had a TON of cookies. In fact, we had a ton of everything, one of our guests brought 6 wild turkeys he made in his smoker! We ate good for days afterward.

I tried to explain that we HAVE Italian bakeries here but no. The cookies had to be from the one they always use. We didn't have a special cookie table. Instead we (me and the groom) carried around a large tray, passing out cookies to the guests. My husband's family thought we were short on catering help and were just appalled.

I don't know about "around here" but I do know about Italians. Off the Boat. But living in NJ.
