Steaks. The RG cut them into strips.
Eggplant sliced, sauteed, and over the top is Swiss cheese. On top of that, grilled, sliced vegetables: a zucchini, a yellow pepper, and a red pepper slice.
Macaroni, and I wish I could tell you what kind of sauce it is but it was different than anything I'd ever tasted, and quite delicious. It has hot pepper on it.
Tossed salad with all kinds of raw vegetables like fennel, red onion, carrot, cucumber, and red peppers. Tomato, too. Dressing is mirin and sesame oil.
For dessert, Haagen Dazs Java Chip ice cream.
Wine--he has red and I have white.

(21,916 posts)At the suggestion of DUer dameatball, I got some Gorgonzola cheese to top off the steaks. They will be accompanied with fried mushrooms.
I marinated the asparagus spears in lemon and olive oil with fresh rosemary, thyme and diced garlic. I usually put them on the grill just before I turn the meat. The first thing onto the grill, however, will be the fresh corn-on-the-cob. After shucking the ears, I butter and salt & pepper and wrap each one in aluminum foil. If you turn them every few minutes, they get nicely cooked with a tasty amount of burned edges but they stay moist thanks to the butter.
We'll have a small salad of beefsteak tomatoes with thinly sliced red onion and a sprinkling of dill.
Cookies and brandy for dessert.

(2,016 posts)as the local taqueria. I'm thinking beef lengua today. With whatever sides and salsa bar items they have today (it changes daily).
Too burned out to cook today, spent all day fixing a couple of WWII-era radios. (And to my surprise, I didn't screw it up.) Kinda weird to listen to a ballgame today on something someone else had listened to, say, the Andrew Sisters live.

(5,580 posts)I made a Rainier Cherry salsa to top a seared tuna steak. Buttered noodles on the side.
Stiff, stiff, Citron Vodka and tonic.
Short holiday weeks can be stressful!
Good meal and liquor is helping. 😉
