(7,947 posts)Something I learned... make sure you put in enough liquid. I thought it looked like "too much," and so only put in half== I always second-guess recipes!- and everything turned out very dry.

(1,093 posts)Just made a Pot Roast yesterday. Cooked it straight out of the Freezer.
Made beans for chili. Put them in dry and cooked for 45 minutes. Perfection.
I tend to google recipes for cook times and then make my own creations.

(2,824 posts)Here's a link to the basic recipe:
https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchen/instant-pot-pot-roast-5195673
Use the Saute feature to brown the roast on all sides, then add veggies, wine and broth.
It comes out nice and tender. If you like firmer veggies, I pressure cook the roast for 40 minutes, then add veggies and pressure cook for another 20 minutes.
Bon Appetite!

(987 posts)Or any beans cooked with a meaty ham bone. There is such a bone in my freezer right now. Come January - yum, yum, yum - some mighty fine eating for very little money.
I like to use dried beans - the Insta Pot does an incredible job with beans. No soaking necessary. Beans are cooked to a creamy perfection.

(987 posts)They have the basics, but mail order sources have a huge variety. I use North Bay Trading Company. True, beans are beans, but interesting beans add something to an otherwise rather plain dish.

(2,035 posts)Boneless skinless chicken (your choice, breast, legs, thighs, wings)
One bottle of Wishbone Russian Dressing
One jar of apricot preserves
One package of Lipton Onion Soup mix
Two cups of water
put rack in bottom of instant pot to keep chick off the bottom of pot
whisk all ingredients together and pour over chicken
set instant pot on poultry and set on normal for eight minutes
use natural release of pressure
Serve with rice (I fix mine in a rice cooker) and steamed broccoli with butter sauce
choose your favorite bread and wine
Family loves this
Enjoy!

(2,035 posts)it came with the instant pot. It's a stainless steel trivet about an inch tall that fits the bottom of the pot.

(1,089 posts)From dry split peas.
Heres the recipe I used: https://www.simplyhappyfoodie.com/instant-pot-split-pea-soup/
I also make 1/2 gallon of yogurt every week.
An amazing number of recipes & tips on the internet.
My favorite non-recipe is a chicken & rice dish with Indian seasonings that I make a lot.
Rice goes in on top of the chicken and it all cooks perfectly!
I LOVE my instapot!

(1,477 posts)Ive used it twice once for a chuck roast and once for pork chops. Both came out tender. My next recipe to try will be Kalua Pig.

(2,824 posts)To begin, make Butternut Squash Soup in the Instant pot. I use any squash, carrots and/or sweet potatoes that I have on hand. I don't peel the squash because I scrub the veggies and after they pressure cook 20 minutes the peel is very tender and adds fiber and flavor to the soup. Besides, peeling is a pain.
Put 1 large butternut squash, 2 carrots, and 1 yam, and 2 cups of vegetable broth in the Instant Pot.
Pressure cook it for 20 minutes.
Allow pressure to release naturally.
Put squash, and broth in blender and blend till smooth. Return to Instant Pot
Then Add:
1 can of cut corn, (drain if you don't need to thin the soup )
1 can rinsed black beans (or bean of your choice)
1 can diced tomatoes (drain if you don't need to thin soup)
1 clove minced garlic
1/2 tsp sage
salt & pepper to taste
Return to Instant Pot and use the saute feature to bring soup back to boil.
Turn setting to low to keep it warm till serving.
Serve with roasted pumpkin seeds on top

(1,704 posts)though I don't use the crumb topping. We've also liked philly cheese steak meat and mojo pork. Even more than meals, I like the Instant Pot for meal components - beans, stock, hard vegetables like beets or sweet potatoes. Hard boiled eggs too.

(38,958 posts)Got one of these contraptions a few years ago and I've only done hard boiled eggs in them. Really want to give it a try for something beyond that.

(17,246 posts)It's the reinvention (clever marketing) of the pressure cooker. So much better than a slow cooker!
My wife and I just got one a couple of weeks ago after hearing several friends rave about them. We've been plucking recipes off the internet and experimenting. So far lentil chili, chicken tacos and beef stew have all turned out great. The meat literally breaks apart at the touch of a fork, it's that tender!

(118,484 posts)would have ever thought of buying one. Was re-invented by someone from my neck of the woods.

(17,246 posts)She was at her grandmother's place and grandma had turned on the her pressure cooker to make a meal. My wife heard what she thought was a gunshot. She didn't witness the lid blow off the pressure cooker but she arrived seconds later to witness it embedded in the ceiling. Fortunately grandma was okay.
The amount of steam that comes out of the Instant Pot for a couple of minutes after the meal is done is an indicator of that extremely high pressure. Hopefully there's never a defect!

(118,484 posts)17 minutes and they're done. Then I put them in separate bowls in the fridge and reheat them in the microwave when it is time to eat them. I'm only cooking for one. So that works for me.

(15,088 posts)Even better than in the slow cooker, which is my second favorite way to cook oats.
