(22,031 posts)I love this.
Years ago, I was going to make pasta al pesto for a date and the recipe I found called for two cloves of garlic. I did exactly the same thing! Fortunately, I realized my mistake before I killed us both.

(2,125 posts)Having said that, I was once served mac n cheese with an abundance of garlic - it was a bit much, to put it lightly, so I sympathize!

Ingredients
5 cups water
1/4 cup miso
3 cloves garlic, minced
3/4 tsp garlic powder
1/2 cup sliced shiitake mushrooms
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 block tofu, any kind, sliced into small cubes
3 scallions (green onions), sliced
Ditections
Steps to Make It
Heat water just to a low simmer, then reduce the heat so the water is hot but not actually simmering or boiling and then stir in the miso. You want to be careful that the water doesn't boil when you add in the miso, but rather it should be just below the boiling point.
Stir well to fully dissolve the miso and make sure there are no clumps, then, stir in the remaining ingredients and allow to heat for a couple minutes, just to gently soften the garlic and mushrooms.
Stir well, and serve.
No shitake mushrooms, sliced button ones.

(2,824 posts)I have been trying to eat mostly vegetarian except when I am tempted by grilled trout or the occasional grass fed roast beef. It seems to help reduce arthritis inflammation if I eat vegan, but I'm not an Orthodox Vegan.

(32,968 posts)Wrap it in paper towels, put a weight on top, cube it, bake the cubes turning once, I like the slightly more chewy texture in the soup.

(46,080 posts)When the recipe calls for two shallots is it the two "cloves" inside the bulb or is the bulb itself.

(4,741 posts)Only about half of them actually have two lobes.
They're so variable in size that "one shallot" is almost meaningless anyway; when I'm developing recipes at work I always measure the shallots and onions.
