Snow days are best spent in the kitchen

It hasn’t actually started snowing yet, but I’ve been to the grocery store and plan to cook all day. Dough is rising for bagels, chocolate is melting for brownies, and I’m considering whether I want to make beef stew in my InstantPot.

still edible later in the week? I've tried paper - it dries out, I've tried plastic - it makes the crust soggy. I don't want to freeze them, but I could, if that's the way to go.

Thanks for your help in this very pressing matter.

The morning before I use then I thaw them on a rack. About an hour before I use them, I put them in a 170 degree oven for 20 minutes or so, and then remove them to cool once more.

This process works well for me, but you have to remember to thaw them on a wire rack for 4 or 5 hours at room temp, or they are kinda icy in the middle.

It’s my first time—I get carried away when I watch that British baking show. It remains to be seen if they turn out to be anything like bagels.

we were so enthusiastic we decided to double the recipe. Unfortunately, we had more dough than we could make into bagels before they rose too much - still great, though!

ENJOY!

They were somehow lumpy and flat at the same time. I’m going to watch a few YouTube videos on the subject and try again.

Going to get down to 20 degrees for two nights, thank goodness no snow or freezing rain. This is cold here (for Dallas). I have the makings for chili and a chili cheese log for tomorrow. Also granny apples for a cobbler.
