Mango Sorbet Recipe

A friend of ours was having a Tiki-themed birthday party recently, and we volunteered to bring something to mix with rum in some refreshing summer Tiki drinks. We made this delicious mango sorbet! It's a super simple recipe, and the toughest part is probably just getting the mango flesh off of the skin. We didn't spice it up in any way, we really just wanted to highlight the natural mango flavour, plus it was going to get mixed with booze anyway.

This method works very well with many different kinds of fruit. Some fruit even benefits from heating up the puree in with the sugar syrup! For things with delicate flavours like peach and strawberry we wouldn't recommend it, because it gives the final product a kind of "cooked" taste that's not as nice as the natural fruit flavour from a plain raw puree.

Make all kinds when the weather is hot.

My brother and I recently figured out how to make sherbet. I bet that would be good using mangoes.

They do an awesome Mango sorbet and a Mango Basil Ice Cream (as well as 20-30 other flavors). Besides the Mango, my favs are Peach Blueberry cobbler and Fig-goat-aboutit (Fig and goat cheese ice cream).

It's student developed, managed, run, etc. If anyone is ever driving through Newark, Delaware, you should definitely stop. Their small shop is located between Townsend Hall (Ag Hall) and The Fieldhouse. It's the best ice cream shop in town, and now they're getting into small batch cheese production as well. They also have a shop near the UD building in Wilmington.

Thought I'd put a plug in for them, but I think I might try that sorbet recipe with a fresh basil infusion

Use that instead of the plain syrup to get things going on your sorbet. Mango will take a lot of interesting green and herbal flavours like basil or mint.

Have to give it a try. I got some mangoes at the store yesterday because I was planning a mango jalapeno salsa for some salmon. Might have to rethink my plans
