What's for Dinner, Sat., Nov. 9, 2019

First up is a slice of pate en croute with Dijon and red onion.

Roast beef stew. This is something the RG fixed in the slow cooker two nights ago. It has rutabaga, carrot, parsnips, and celeriac.

Sliced Persian cucumber salad with dill and red onion. I made cream sauce with crema Mexicana, a tiny bit of mayo, and half 'n half.

Dessert will be a little slice of peach lattice pie with walnuts and vanilla rice pudding. Hot cup of tea, of course, in this cool weather.

It's simmering, as I type this. I've got some left over apple crisp and 'vividly vanilla' ice cream, for afters.

We're having the first cold spell in New York and a stew sounds like the perfect comfort food!

Unfortunately, the Landlady(!) is rehearsing for The Nutcracker so I got her a sashimi special luncheon. I'll probably make some pasta to stay warm.

Putting a lemon inside the cavity for a bit of brightness.
Served with buttered jasmine rice and the carrots and onions.
Will probably also reheat the braised cabbage I made yesterday.
Dessert will be the fresh Shaker lemon pie I made this morning.
Cold weather spurs my cooking and baking.

romaine salad with tomato and black olives. The vinaigrette has red wine vinegar but also a dash of fig balsamic vinegar (don't tell my son). Garlic bread too.

Honeynut ginger squash soup. Whole wheat mac and cheese. Hot tea. Everything made ahead of time. It is really cold.
