Flounder stuffed with shrimp.
Zucchini with (don't know what to call this) mozzarella ball in a wonton. That's not really what it is but it's the closest I can come to a description. Had them before--they are very good. The RG buys this stuff at various ethnic markets around here and he doesn't always get a name for whatever it is he buys.
Tossed salad with red and green lettuce; tomatoes, red onions, green pepper, and celery.
Dessert: caramel apple and hot ginger tea.

(5,631 posts)Seahawks vs 49ers.
So bar food - since the game starts @ 5:30. And beer.
Maybe will get some wings???
Hopefully dessert will be a Seahawks victory! Go Hawks!

(21,995 posts)We picked up some beautiful flounder filets yesterday on City Island in New York. I'm going to lightly flour them then sauté them with capers and white wine. Lemon wedges on the side, of course.
Small red potatoes will be baked with a coating of olive oil and dried thyme. We still have some broccoli and I'm planning to steam the spears.
Orange slices for dessert.
Nothing fancy but it should be yummy.

(4,588 posts)Its in the 60s today, so Dad is firing up the grill for what may be the last time in 2019.
Deviled eggs with bacon (yum!) and assorted leftovers for sides.
White cake with whipped cream frosting for dessert.

(37,982 posts)I saw a thing where the trick to making crispy tofu is to coat it in corn starch before frying. I did so + I seasoned the corn starch with salt, pepper, garlic and paprika. Success!

(3,268 posts)Yesterday was a chicken thigh roast so today was deglazing the pan of chicken smaltz and roasted bits then adding a bit of liquids and a couple of boullion cubes, celery and baby carrots. Near the end I threw in a handful or so of egg noodles. I had a leftover raw split chicken beast which i threw in along with the meat of an uneaten thigh-and, oh yeah-a chopped up onion...The point is soup is almost organic-almost never is a recipe needed-in the leftover kitchen it is always what meat do I have left, what side veggies are sitting and which starch (pasta, potato, or rice) do I have...
Older stoves-say 1910-1930 had a single burner set a foot or more below the surface into which a large stockpot was fit-this was the "crockpot" of the past-Whether gas or electric that pot was food all day long and every day. It took my grandmother through the depression and 12 kids-any morsel not eaten went into that pot-and this at a time when children might bring hungry friends over. One of three starches, available veggies, and leftover smidgens of meat saved a generation when times were hard and I believe that this was truly soup-recipes and fancy shit be damned-Fresh soup from recipes is at times elitist shit while "what I have" soup is always welcome and sometimes a winner.

(22,005 posts)I'm pooped, so just drizzled some Zesty Italian salad dressing on top. Haven't decided what else yet. Maybe some butternut squash for me, pasta/veges for the kids.
