It sounds like it might have gone fresh, though. I usually throw it out when that happens.

The liquid whey doesnt hurt anything. If it becomes excessive just poor it down the sink or drain it off, freeze it, and use it to make smoothies with. Mixing it back in is a bad idea as it will just cause more separation.
