Meatless May 2020, anyone doing it?

To show support for the meat packing plants?
I heard of it today on an NPR midday show and went googling.

I'm eating very little chicken, eggs & fish, no pork & beef for months. The chicken & eggs I get from a local farm.

I'll post recipes here as I find them. I'll post the source article in GD as well.

Source--https://www.radioiowa.com/2020/05/06/lulac-urges-consumers-to-join-meatless-may-boycott/

Snip--"One of the country’s largest Latino organizations is calling for a boycott of processed meat, due to outbreaks of the coronavirus at meat packing plants. The League of United Latin American Citizens — also known as LULAC — is calling on consumers to join their “Meatless May” campaign.

“This is again the time for people in America to speak up…for safety and health procedures for these workers,” says Joe Henry, a Des Moines area leader in LULAC, “to make sure that we have justice in the workplace.”

Henry and other advocates say in addition to COVID-19 testing for all employees at food processing plants, the corporate owners of the plants should provide paid sick leave and slow down production lines so workers can stand farther apart."

I bought a couple steaks yesterday because it might not be available soon. I’m slightly anemic and red meat is supposed to be good for that.

I currently have a freezer well stocked, probably some two months' worth of meat. Mainly some pork chops and boneless chicken breasts. I also have some Italian sausage that will become a spicy sausage casserole, and will probably yield at least 9 or 10 meals for me. that's with one pound of sausage. Oh, and a 9 pound turkey purchased last Christmas has just been moved from freezer to refrigerator to thaw. I'll cook it Sunday or Monday. About half of it will get frozen to be used down the road as turkey pot pies, maybe turkey tetrazzini, some kind of turkey soup, other meals. If I get fewer than 25 miles out of that one bird I'd be surprised.

I also simply don't eat very much at this point in my life, and so my biggest concern is being able to buy and fix small enough quantities so that I don't have much waste.

There just aren't that many non-meat ways to meet protein needs that don't involve massive carb intake.

I'm happy to hear differently, as I'm fully aware of the negative impacts on the environment of the animal food industry.

diabetes and stroke... Yea the bombs and bullets got'em but the lower calorie meatless diet was better for their health. Same with the so called Mediterrian diet. After the war there was very little meat so veg was the only choice. A little fish came with this diet also..
