Cooking & Baking
Related: About this forumHow often do you clean your oven?
This is a two-part inquiry.
1. How often do you do a big cleaning with oven-cleaner and a day dedicated to this project?
2. Do you do mini-cleanings after a big endeavor such as roasting? After each one or after a series? (Not talking about cleaning spillage. Just general wiping up the floor, near the door, etc.

(15,805 posts)My oven has a steam cleaning function. I've only used it once but it loosened up that baked on brownish film so it could by wiped off with a sponge.
Summer heat in the desert means I rarely use the oven from June to November. I think cooking methods are in a period of transition right now and we aren't eating or cooking the same way our mothers did.
I still rely on the oven occasionally for dinner parties where large items like a large batch of cookies, pies, pizza, bread, a whole turkey or roast is needed. But our household is down to two and we normally don't need vats of soup or chili, a whole ham, or a 23lb turkey.
All the new countertop appliances on the market today have made it easier and faster to use my air fryer, a toaster oven and the instant pot to cook the same recipes that I would have put in the oven, and they don't heat up the house.

(15,705 posts)The reason is it goes to over 550 degrees and I cant think of any way that can be good. But I do wipe out the stove regularly (weekly at least).

Im bad. I hate cleaning ovens. I think because I spent years at a Pizza Hut and had to clean those huge damn things in college.
I pay to have it done! Lol.
ETA: mine is a 40 year old restaurant gas monster that I love but has no self clean option. Lol

(55,004 posts)inside - maybe scrape big spills up soon after but as for real cleaning? once per decade?
top? try to wipe it up once or twice daily as it is used and really degrease and clean the spillways every month or so.
