Is it okay to post about dogs and food in here?

Or is this more of a Pets group topic? Anyway here goes:

I'm was in the middle of grilling salmon and had put a avocado on the counter to slice and add to my salad. When, I walked outside to get my fish, tripped over my half gnawed avocado. When I yelled out an expeletive Copper ran right to it and began burying it in the shrubs.

Good thing I have another.

Seriously, this dog loves anything green...avocados, beans, granny smiths, pears, aspargus, etc . I can leave most anything on the counter and he won't touch it but if it's green he wants it. He's even eaten raw brussel sprouts before. What is up with that?

As for me, I'm all for a good story, and this one certainly qualifies. I think you'll probably have a lot of knowledgable tips on the 'Seriously' part of your post about your greens-eating dog in the Pet's forum. Those folks know their pups.

Avocado

No matter how good you think the guacamole is, you shouldn't give it to your dog. Avocados contain a substance called persin. It's harmless for humans who aren't allergic. But large amounts might be toxic to dogs. If you happen to be growing avocados at home, keep your dog away from the plants. Persin is in the leaves, seed, and bark, as well as in the fruit.

Go figure! I swear dogs will eat anything. My friend has a ShihTzu who would rather eat veggies than meat or dog food.

Mine loves carrots, cantaloupe and sweet potatoes. She also loves the egg I give her every week. Also slipping some garlic in their food will help keep the fleas away.

a friend's dog got into some and they had to induce vomiting or else he might have been a goner. Chocolate can be really bad too.

because they eat grapes droppings from the T-man all the time. I'm reallyn going to have to be more careful as I had no idea about the grapes.

And you are correct which is what is scary. Not that you are correct just that bad info was given to me by someone who I thought should know better. Good thing I haven't been giving my little one garlic and the one that I did give it to regularly is now gone. She lived a long life despite the garlic but I certainly wouldn't have given it to her knowing what I know now.

but I give him just teeny pieces when I'm cooking because if I disturb his tummy there is always back end trouble. He's crazy for carrots, like they are beef tenderloin.

our previous dear one who passed away 2 years ago (a short legged dog, part corgi and part lab) ate a whole little deli chicken one day. I left it on the counter and was distracted by something and when I came back the chicken was gone! what the... where's the chicken! The only thing left of it was a part of the label that was stuck to the floor and then it finally dawned on me what the situation was. He ate the whole thing bones and all. I was worried about that because chicken bones and dogs do not go well together. He was okay tho.

I was growing broccoli in my garden... he never paid much attention to it... until I let it go to flower... which attracted the bees... which attracted Freddie... whose interest quickly turned from the bees to the broccoli.

He was awfully quiet that evening, lol.

On a serious note, I don't approve and have taken steps to ensure that it doesn't happen again. But he wasn't harmed by the tiny amount he got.

He almost loves it as much as he loves cheese.

That green thing is crazy weird though.

I'm not sure why Cooper would like green things, but brussels sprouts aren't typical in a dog's diet.
