I'm soooo tired

I have massive plans for today, including planting the window boxes and the borders along the front walk. But first I had to go buy what I needed. I wound up going to two nurseries and Lowes, all accompanied by a bored, whining grandchild. I’m bushed already and haven’t planted a thing. Coffee, work your miracle!

I’m about to leave the house for Lowe’s garden dept. right now.

And, I remember my mom and grandma dragging a 6 year old me along to the plant nurseries every spring. Grab a cart, and up and down every aisle we went. Pick up a potted flower. What about this one? Not right, put it down. Move along three feet. Pick up another pot. What about this one? Etc. etc. stand in a long line at cashier counter. It was so borrrring..

Good luck with your plans today!

There are thousands (maybe millions) of you doing the same thing today. This place is packed!

count me in as a planter. It's raining here, but I can still get a lot done.

I'm not buying plants today, though; I already started about 150 I need to get in. Even though I started tomatoes, etc., I am still starting some from seed. I constructed the trellises already and put them in.

Planted turnips two days ago Love love love turnips.

Have about 30 hostas to get in, too.

My many stops were largely about finding 36" coca fiber liners for my window boxes—everyone had the 30", but not the larger ones. Next year I think I’ll just order the correct size.

Today, I have three window boxes to plant with tiny petunias and sweet-potato vine, a flat of zinnias for the pathway, and a flat of sweet alyssum to plant between the pansies, so they can take over when the pansies die back.

But first, another cup of coffee.

Not completely weeded, yet - that can wait until after the rain. If we get it. Also potted and planted some Basil and transplanted some Thyme.

It's now officially HOT outside (between 80 and 86, depending on the weather site) so I might just take the rest of the day off, and this afternoon I'll sit in the shade, read a book and sip on some Chardonnay. Or, maybe a Margarita.

I can rationalize this behavior because weeding will be easier when the ground is moistened and the heat is lessened.

Before very many people were out. Put in a whole new walkway to the backdoor, with the shrubs, and transplanted purple coneflowers, bachelor buttons, calendula, and daisies from the garden along the edges. I've cut my huge flower garden down to about a third of what it was, and been transplanting tons of things elsewhere.

I get almost all the annual flowers for hanging baskets and such from the local Amish nurseries. Not crowded, cheaper, and excellent quality. Only thing I have to go out for now is more landscape timbers and soil.

After 4 hours planting and trips to garden center (we have a great small family run nursery a mile away). Whew. I am tired. Did the same for 3 hours yesterday. Not the same when you are 65 instead of 25 or even 45. Starting Monday my seasonal helper will come for a few hours a week. He is in 11th grade and his family moved here in 2010 fleeing Russia. His name is Vlad.

I planted 4 sunflowers in the front yard garden to honor Ukraine.

That's such a nice thing to do. Sunflowers don't go with my downstairs colors, but I have a section of my property
that is up the steps on the mountain. When you drive up to my house, you see this area but you don't know what it is because it's 12' high, but you do see the fence for it. I'm going to plant sunflowers all the way across that fence!!

Somehow I ended up with a big variety of sunflowers, so it will be fun to plant one or two of each kind.
