was an expert gardener thereof) but this has just the mad-scientist twist that might get me over my fears!

4. It really depends on the rose you choose.

I am no expert on roses, but I have a bush that was given to me. Before taking it, I told the person that I refused to use any chemicals and I was not going to baby any rose bush. They guaranteed me that this one took no effort, and they were not lying. I do have problems with Japanese Beetles in the second blooming later in the summer, but that is all....and those beetles even got me pissed enough to dig that bush out and throw it away. I guess that I didn't get all the roots, because the danged thing is back with a vengence.

I was told it was an heirloom rose called Aloha rose. I thought I was told it was a Jackson & Perkins, but I looked on their website, and they do not have this listed. I did find it at the Antique Rose Emporium (a wonderful place if you are ever in Brenham Texas to see the Bluebonnets).

5. An unkillable rose sounds like the right kind for me.

And yes, Japanese Beetles are disgusting! Luckily, around here, they seem to attack the invasive fig that grows everywhere, so it's menace vs. menace in a lovely death match.

Just come and try to dig it up and take it....I bet I still have it show back up in a few years, and you will have one too.

The one thing about Japanese Beetles that really is a problem: they eat all the late summer blooms. I ended up with them on lots of my plants as well, but when I got rid of the bush (for a few years), they did not come back. They seemed to be attracted just to the roses. Ick.
