(22,666 posts)Poor Tara. Elephants are extremely intelligent and they do mourn. I wish humans would not ignorantly assume that just because we don't completely understand the emotions, intellect, or suffering of other living beings - that they don't have any. It's just not true. We should have compassion and empathy for all of them.

(20,868 posts)Of course animals have a soul. Every living thing has a soul (including people as difficult as that can be to see at times ...).
When my dog died I was as distraught as one human being could possibly be as said dog was found with his head on my father's feet after breakfast one day about 15+ years ago. My father was dead, yes, dead.
Said dog went on to live with my late mother who pampered him and cared for him beyond anyone's wildest imagination; taking him to have his teeth fully cleaned every 6 mos. etc. etc. She fell ill suddenly and found out she had not long to live. She was so very worried about her dog. I promised her I'd care for him for the rest of his life and I did just that.
When he died, it was like having my father die, my mother die and their beloved dog die all at once.
My then Old Kitty (OK) was still around and she spotted me sitting in a chair crying my eyes out. She jumped up on my lap (something she never did) and began licking the tears off of my face. Old Kitty had a giant heart and most certainly a soul that went with it.
The soul lives on forever after the physical death is my belief. It comforts me having them buried in my back yard, something that is not allowed in many countries around the world (a serious crime in Germany for example).
Great little clip and thanks for posting this tear jerker.
