I'm sitting here right now cooking my dog's food for the next four days. It can time consuming chopping up all the veggies, meat, etc., but every time I think I will go back to bought dog food something like the fake meat comes up and has me back committed to cooking. I will anxiously await the top choice selections this fall!

to try that, that or raw. I hear you can do it with comparable cost to kibble. I have 3 big dogs and one little one so it is a lot of work. My friend tells me she spends one day cooking or separating it all for a month, she has 8 (?).

What do you use for your nutritional reference?

I have a couple of cookbooks for the pups...Dr. Pitcairn had several good ones on dog nutrition with recipes. I've just now started looking into raw, just not sure how feasible it is for me. I have one basica recipe that I use the most, and then will mix it up occasionally based on what's in the house when it's time to make more.

I will say that my big doberman/hound mix gets VERY excited when his "pot" that I cook his food in comes out.

My vet says they are totally healthy, excellent weight, blood work is always great, and it really helps my boxer's sensitive tummy verses any commercial dog food I've tried in the past.

I had a shepherd mix live to 16 and I cooked for her the last 6 years of her life after she was diagnosed with cancer.

list that breaks down a lot of what is in the foods and red flag ingredients. It is a yearly subscription but cheap and worth it. Also Ancient Wisdom by Dr. Basko 2nd Edition just came out and is available for dog food info and recipes. His book is most often used by Holistic Vets also.

I got one of the books and when I am done I will move on to the others. I did find a person who runs a store that supplies to people who feed raw and cooked but she lives in a state a long ways from here but she will help me when I get ready to start this.

I greatly fear dog food with Chinese ingredients since they don't keep such strict standards as we do. But one thing that bears watching even in the US is whether kibble is produced at the same plant that also produces cattle feed. The two processes don't mix, and sooner or later some yahoo skips the cleaning process before the switch, then a lot of dogs die from contamination.

Depends on how detailed they source the ingredients.
So far I am liking the site, find it helpful, we changed food for the fur kid after reading the site.
